This pair of angel and miner ornaments comes from Müller, made by hand using traditional methods from local wood and hand-stained and painted in strong colors.

Angel:
This tree ornament shows an angel in traditional wooden art form that exudes a festive and simple elegance. The angel wears a long, white robe that reaches to the floor. On the lower hem of the robe you can see delicate green and red dots that subtly decorate the robe and give it colorful accents.

The angel’s head shows a simply painted face with red cheeks, small closed eyes and a red mouth. The hairstyle is in a dark brown tone, with the hair short and straight on the head. On the angel’s head sits a golden crown that is slightly curved and decorated in the middle with a small green element. This detail reinforces the festive and royal character of the angel.

The angel holds a candle in each hand, which sits on a simple, natural candle holder. The flames of the candles are shown in bright yellow, which gives the impression of burning candlelight and underlines the symbolic meaning of the light.

Large red wings rise up behind the angel, giving it a majestic and protective appearance. The wings are in a strong red and give the figure a strong presence on the Christmas tree.

A fine, golden cord is attached to the top of the angel, which allows the figure to be hung on the Christmas tree as a pendant. The entire angel exudes calm and tradition and is a classic example of the detailed craftsmanship of Erzgebirge wood art.

Miner:
The hanging shows a small, stylized wooden figure of a miner. He wears a black hat with a red detail on top. The head is round and has a simple, painted face with red cheeks. The body is white with a black vest and white buttons. In each hand, the miner holds a candle holder with a red base and a yellow flame. The arms are spherical and attached to the sides. The foot of the figure is placed on a small, round wooden base.

History:
At a time when mining was the most important source of income, darkness and the constant threat in the mines played a central role in people’s lives. To meet these challenges, the angel and miner light figures were created. These figures were not only intended to bring light into the dark days, but also to convey security and hope.

The angel stood for protection and help from above, a symbolic connection to the divine power that watched over the miners. His light was intended to illuminate the way and give people confidence. The miner, on the other hand, reflected the hard work and courage of the men who worked every day in the depths of the earth and risked their lives.

These light figures became an important symbol of solidarity and belief in protection and luck in the dangerous times of mining. They reminded people of what they lacked most: light, security and hope for a better future.
