This Nutcracker Rider King comes from Legler.
This Rider King is an impressive figure that is artfully designed and rich in detail. The Nutcracker sits proudly on a magnificent white rocking horse. The horse is equipped with a soft, fluffy mane that gives him an elegant appearance. The horse’s decorations are artfully executed: A colorful pattern consisting mainly of red triangles and blue dots can be seen above the horse’s white body. The swing of the rocking horse is underlined by the semicircular shape of the rocking base, which is also decorated with geometric patterns.
The Nutcracker himself wears an elaborately designed royal uniform. His red jacket is richly decorated, with gold details on the sleeves and a finely drawn pattern on the front. On his head he wears a black and gold crown that looks majestic and emphasizes his royal status. His hair is made of soft, white material that also frames his ears and gives him a royal appearance.
The nutcracker’s face is friendly and inviting, with blue eyes, a round, pink nose and gently flushed cheeks. His black moustache is striking and gives him character. The movable mouth part, which is typical of a nutcracker, is also decorated with a soft white beard, which harmoniously rounds off the overall look. The nutcracker’s legs are in blue and yellow colors, matching the horse’s decorations.
Together, this combination of rocking horse and nutcracker creates a colorful and elegant figure that looks both traditional and artistic. It is a wonderful decorative piece and exudes Christmas joy with its wealth of detail and fine workmanship.

The history of the Rider:
The Erzgebirge Rider is a traditional figure that comes from the Erzgebirge region in Saxony. This region is known for its artistic woodwork, which plays a particularly important role at Christmas time. Along with candle arches, smokers and nutcrackers, the Rider is an integral part of Erzgebirge folk art.
The tradition of the Rider has its origins in the lives of miners and craftsmen in the Erzgebirge. In earlier times, when mining was still the main source of income in the region, people were looking for additional income, especially during the long winter months. This necessity gave rise to wood carving, which soon developed into a popular art form.
The Rider, a small figure on a horse, was originally a toy for children. But over time it also gained symbolic meaning. In many depictions, the Rider is a symbol of strength, bravery and the patron saint of miners, Saint George, who is often depicted as a knight on a horse. Guardian angels and kings were also depicted as riders.
The production of these figures still follows traditional craftsmanship today. They are usually carved from wood and then artistically painted. Each figure is unique and is passed down from generation to generation. At Christmas time, the rider is often set up as a decorative object and symbolizes not only the craftsmanship of the Ore Mountains, but also the deeply rooted traditions of the region.
The rider thus represents a close connection between art, history and regional identity, which is still maintained in many families today.
