Candle arches have been decorating the windows at Christmas time for many years and conjure up cozy and contemplative light that invites you to linger.
An impressive panorama of snow-covered Seiffen unfolds on the gray and white background of the Johanniser candle arch with miners. The focus of the action is the world-famous Seiffen Church, surrounded by picturesque snow-covered houses whose contemplative lighting radiates from their interior.
A miners’ band, consisting of three miners in traditional uniforms, is positioned dominantly in the foreground. To the left of them you can see the entrance to the Johanniser Stollen. Through a sparklingly decorated opening in the tunnel, the arch provides insight into the hard work of a miner. A miner kneels in the middle of the tunnel cave, using a hammer and chisel to cut the valuable ore out of the stones. The cave is supported in the middle by a stable ceiling support that protects against the impending collapse. The only source of light in the gloomy depths of the tunnel is a lonely miner’s lamp, which illuminates the scene with its pale glow.
The staged scenery conveys a haunting atmosphere of hard work and tradition. The harmonious contrast between the festive lighting of the church and houses above ground and the harsh reality of mining underground makes the Johanniser Schwibbogen a fascinating work of art that impressively depicts the history and culture of the miners.
